"Nickel Creek" hosting benefit concerts for public radio around state
A Grammy-nominated group is playing a show in Anchorage, with the proceeds benefiting KTNA, the Talkeetna community radio station.
Nickel Creek, a world-class acoustic/newgrass band comprised of musicians ranging in age from 19-24, will play at the 4th Avenue Theater in Anchorage on Sept. 7 to benefit KTNA, a nonprofit, public radio station.
All of the group's Alaska shows have been set up as fundraising concerts for public radio stations throughout the state.
Two bands are opening for Nickel Creek. Barefoot Bluegrass Band and Rank Strangers will open the show, which begins at 8 p.m. The doors open at 6:30 p.m.
Nickel Creek's musicians began their careers 10-15 years ago, and they recently released their debut album as a group.
The debut release was nominated for two Grammy Awards, and they have won numerous other awards for their work.
The group has been featured in a New York Times feature article, as well as in Time Magazine, which named Nickel Creek as one of the top 100 innovators in the arts.
Tickets for the events range in price from $18-22 and are available at all CARRS TIX/Tickets.com locations.
The show is only open to those 21 and older.
