Across the state, Fourth of July celebrations abound this weekend

Wasilla is holding the Valley's own Fourth of July celebration, but for those who crave a little travel over the holiday weekend, here is a list of places to go and things to see. So load up the camper, get ready for the motorhome smorgasbord on the road and remember the hot-dogs! For those who believe that traveling during the first weekend of July is for the strong in spirit, weak in brains category, we've got plenty of things happening right here in our back yard.

Wasilla

For those who like to stay close to home during the holiday rush, Wasilla's Fourth of July celebration, complete with the Armed Forces Honor Garden Presentation, is a perfect match.

Friday noon -- Independence Day Parade through downtown.

1:30 p.m. -- Wasilla Armed Forces Honor Garden Presentation.

2:30 p.m. -- free community picnic presented by the city of Wasilla.

Saturday 10:45 a.m. -- Miles for Meals 5K Walk and Run.

Anchorage

Join the largest city in Alaska in its forth of July celebration, complete with a baseball doubleheader and a double dose of fireworks.

12:30 a.m. -- Fireworks celebration at the Denaley Parks Strip.

8:30 a.m. -- Pancake breakfast.

11:30 a.m. -- Parade downtown.

11 - 6 p.m. -- Family picnic with games and celebrations.

10:30 p.m. -- Fireworks display directly after the U.S.A. Olympic Baseball Team Vs. the Anchorage Bucs at Mulcahy Stadium (admission required).

Seward

Join in during this town's centennial celebration -- complete with the ever-popular Mount Marathon Race, performances by the Top Cover Airforce Band and games such as nail driving, the egg and spoon race and the water balloon toss.

9:30 a.m. -- Junior Mount Marathon Race.

11:15 a.m. -- Woman's Mount Marathon Race.

1:30 p.m. -- Parade, themed 'Centennial by the Sea.'

3:00 p.m. -- Men's and Women's Mount Marathon Race.

11:59 p.m. -- Sensation of Light and Sound fireworks display on the waterfront.

Homer

Homer's celebration theme this year is "Let Freedom Ring," complete with Homer's first Friday gallery openings and a gypsy carnival, the peninsula's other city by the sea is sure to entertain.

10 a.m. -- Fourth of July Golf Tournament.

11 - 3 p.m. -- Antiques on Wheels Show at the Spenard Builders Supply parking lot.

Noon-4 p.m. -- Fourth of July Children's Carnival at the American Legion.

noon-5:30 p.m. -- Gypsy Carnival.

3-5:30 p.m. -- Bike decorating.

4 p.m. -- Annual Pig Roast.

6 p.m. -- Independence Day Parade.

7:30 p.m. -- Chapel Choir Outdoor Concert at WKFL park.
