The Alaska Junior Golf Association held a tournament at Settlers Bay Golf Course earlier this week. It was the last tournament in the Valley for AJGA this season.
The first tourney was held at the Palmer Golf Course. The next one will be June 25 at Moose Run Golf Course in Anchorage.
Players from all three tourneys combined will be chosen based on their performance to compete in the "Best of the Best" competition on June 28, at the Anchorage Golf Course. Competitions will be held for the longest drive, longest putt and closest to the pin.
On Wednesday, Billy Casper, winner of the 1970 Masters as well as the 1959 and 1966 U.S. Open, came to Alaska to be a part of AJGA's "Best of the Best."
Casper will lead a one-hour clinic the day of the tourney, from 1-2 p.m. He promises to teach future professionals some tips of the trade to improve their game.
The full clinic goes from 1-6 p.m. It is limited to the first 200 registrants and to AJGA golfers under the age of 17.
Casper was the 1983 Senior U.S. Open champion. He was twice elected PGA Player of the Year and selected eight times as a member of the United States Ryder Cup Team. He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1978 and the PGA Hall of Fame in 1982.
