AIGA Alaska is sponsoring a portfolio review and design slam at the University of Alaska Anchorage Fine Arts Building from 6 to 9 p.m., May 13. The event is open to all, and professional graphic and web designers will be on hand to provide constructive feedback on the portfolios of students and practicing graphic and web designers.
Bring five to 10 of your best portfolio pieces, either hard copy or electronically, on a flash drive or personal laptop.
The design slam, which begins at 8 p.m., is a real-time design contest. Five designers’ names will be drawn to participate. Contestants will have 30 minutes to execute a poster assignment announced at that time. Slammers will work on stage at individual tables, each with a computer, paper, pencil and access to the Internet and Adobe Creative Suite 5. Computers will be hooked up to projectors to allow the audience to witness and cheer on the creative process. After 30 minutes, the audience will determine the winner.
Portfolio review participants must register by May 1 by email at rsvp@alaska.aiga.org. Admission for members is $10, nonmembers $20, student members $5 and student nonmembers $15. For more information, contact Colleen Shannon at communications@alaska.aiga.org, (907) 868-6728, or visit alaska.aiga.org.
