AKDOT invites public to open house for upcoming Vine and Hollywood road projects

The Alaska Department of Transportation (AKDOT) and Public Facilities will be holding an open house on Thursday, June 16 at 5 p.m. at Goose Bay Elementary School so the public can learn more about the three projects taking place on Vine and Hollywood Roads.

The three projects are KGB to Hollywood; Vine Road at Hollywood Intersection Improvements; and Vine Road to Big Lake Road Pavement Preservation.

The KGB to Hollywood project aims to reconstruct Vine Road between Knik-Goose Bay Road and Hollywood Road. According to the AKDOT website, the project will reconstruct 0.6 miles of existing two-lane road to increase capacity, address safety, and upgrade geometry to current highway standards. Improvements will include: reconstructing the roadbed, widening the shoulder, making improvements to the drainage, and building a pedestrian pathway.

The Vine Road at Hollywood Road intersection improvements will include a single-lane roundabout as well as improved drainage, pedestrian accommodations, lighting, and landscaping.

Currently, the intersection has a crash rate higher than the statewide average for this type of intersection. The purpose is to improve intersection safety and pedestrian accommodation.

Finally, the AKDOT is developing a project to resurface Hollywood Road between Big Lake Road to the west and Vine Road to the east. Improvements are expected for drainage, striping and signage.

With most of the road construction, AKDOT says Right-of-Way (ROW) acquisitions and utility relocations will be necessary.

The open house will give the public the opportunity to ask questions and provide comments to the project team.
