Alaska Coastal Management Program hearing is Monday

WASILLA — A ballot initiative hearing on the Alaska Coastal Management Program is from 5 to 8 p.m., July 9 at the Curtis D. Menard Memorial Sports Center, 1001 S. Mack Drive.

At the Aug. 28 primary, voters will decide whether to reinstate the Alaska Coastal Management Program as proposed by a ballot initiative.

“This initiative would establish a coastal management program for Alaska. Alaska is the only coastal state without an approved coastal management program. The initiative seeks a balanced approach to development and protection of coastal resources,” according to the ballot initiative.

Legislation passed in 2010 requires the lieutenant governor hold hearings on ballot initiative measures.

The Wasilla hearing is one in a series of hearings around the state on the subject.

People may testify in person about the initiative at the hearing in Wasilla Monday, or by phone by calling (855) 463-5009.

The hearing also will be available as a live stream on the Internet at alaskalegislature.tv/.
