WASILLA — Alaska Cross Country Racing and the Big Lake Lions Club are hosting ACCR 30, a cross country snowmachine singles race designed for youth riders of all ages this Saturday.
The ACCR 30 is a 30 mile race that starts on Big Lake and runs through the surrounding trail system.
According to race coordinator Hillarie Gossett, this upcoming race will serve as a training run for longer races yet to come this season, including the Scary Tree 50 and the Iron Pup team races in March.
The top finishers of this event will be also be invited to participate in the Youth Cross Country Invitational race at the Iron Dog Finish.
Children ages 6 to 13 must have a chaperone. Children ages 14 to 17 can race solo. Chaperones must be 18 or older unless otherwise approved by the race organizer.
Parents and gaurdians must be members of the Big Lions Club in order for their children to participate in this race. The entry fee is $50 and chaperones are not required to pay.
Gossett stated that there are 72 racers signed up for the race as of Wednesday, Feb. 2. She noted that they even have Iron Dog athletes helping out as chaperones.
“Iron Dog has even come on board to promote and sponsor some of our races this year. We have expanded our race season to meet the demands,” Gossett said.
Check-in for the race starts at 10 a.m. and snowmachines must be in the staging area by 11 a.m. Online registration concluded Sunday, Jan. 30.
