Alaska Dog and Puppy Rescue says thanks to volunteers

In 2007, a litter of abandoned 4-week-old puppies was placed in a sealed box and dumped by the roadside. Luckily, a kind individual stopped to investigate and consequently brought these unfortunate pups to Alaska Dog and Puppy Rescue. The pups were cared for, vaccinated, spayed, neutered and placed up for adoption.

Pam Flowers, a wonderful author of children’s books, met and fell in love with one of these sweet puppies and decided she couldn’t live without the little black bundle of energy. When this puppy, Ellie, grew up, she and Pam hiked the Appalachian Trail — all 2,174 miles of it. Pam wrote a book about this experience and recorded the sometimes-harrowing events in “Ellie’s Long Walk.”

On Nov. 13, Alaska Dog and Puppy Rescue presented Pam and Ellie for a book-signing event at our facility. Profits from the book sales were donated to our rescue group. Everyone had a wonderful time listening to Pam and Ellie’s adventures and enjoying refreshments.

Alaska Dog and Puppy Rescue would like to thank Pam for adopting Ellie and writing a marvelous book about their adventures together. We also thank Pam for the donation of proceeds from her book sales. Ellie, thanks for growing up to be an awesome dog that loves to hike with her human. Thanks also to the folks at Subway for the tasty 3-foot sandwich they donated and to Slack’s Sugar Shack for the yummy doughnuts and muffins.
