PALMER — Gunnar Knapp is Professor Emeritus of Economics at the University of Alaska Anchorage Institute of Social and Economic Research (ISER) and he's taking his knowledge and experience to the Mat-Su College this Tuesday at 6 p.m. As a part of the Northrim Bank Lecture Series, Dr. Knapp will give his presentation within the Glenn Massay Theater, discussing Alaska’s particular set of fiscal challenges.
According to a press release from the Mat-Su College, Dr. Knapp got his Ph.D in economics from Yale University in 1981. From 2014 to 2016 he served as ISER’s acting Director, retiring in 2016. He’s studied Alaska’s economy for more than three decades. Three years ago, he began an extensive analysis of Alaska’s grave financial hurdles. He will talk about the state’s unique set of circumstances, from the rise and fall of oil revenue to the looming uncertainty of the future. He’s dished out several lectures on this pressing topic, taking into consideration each development along the way. This event will be a chance for the Mat-Su community to listen to his most recent analysis, taking the past to shine a light to the fiscal future each Alaskan faces. He aims to instill a solid understanding of what’s at stake and what can actually be done going forward.
This event is free and open to the public. The doors open at 6 p.m. for a reception and Dr. Knapp’s lecture begins at 7 p.m. For more information, contact Mat-Su College’s Director, Talis Colberg at 907-745-9726.
