To the editor:
I would like to acknowledge an amazing gem, right smack dab in the middle of Talkeetna. The Alaska Folk School (affiliated with Northern Susitna Institute) is something many of you should seek out.
My daughter, a friend and I took a recent two-day class in mosaics. Mary Gunderson, an artist herself, was our very competent teacher. We were met with open arms and left with huge hugs!
We had all of our supplies provided and felt like we were sitting around a kitchen table with old friends. They offer small classes in woodworking, fiber arts, basketry, performing arts and many more, including wilderness skills. Their website is alaskafolkschool.org. Give them a try and see what it opens for you! We thank Mary (and Grata) for a great time. We’ll be back for more!
