Alaska hits another single-day record for COVID-19 positive tests

Alaska hit another COVID-19 single-day record Friday. Fifty coronavirus positive tests were added to the state’s total, according to data on the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services website.

There are now a total of 1,323 positive cases since the state started reporting the results in early March. Friday marked the second straight day that 45 or more positive tests were added to the total, and the third straight day with 38 or more. A total of 176 additional positive tests have been reported since Monday.

Of the 50 Friday, three are residents of the Mat-Su Borough. The borough now has 131 total cases and 83 active cases. Five borough residents have been hospitalized and there have been two deaths.

Of the borough’s total, there have been 71 positive tests in Wasilla, 41 in Palmer, 10 in Willow, six in Big Lake and one in Houston. Two cases are listed as other.

There were 22 more cases in Anchorage added Friday, 16 in Fairbanks, six in the Kenai Peninsula Borough, one in Juneau and two in the Nome census area.

The state’s total recovered cases is at 588, with 80 total hospitalizations and 17 deaths.
