PALMER — Alaska Job Corps Center welcomes new center director is Malyn Smith.
Smith has worked all over the United States in education and management roles and replaces longtime director Ken Northamer who retired from Job Corps after 19 years.
Northamer’s signature remains as evidenced by the campus condition and success of thousands of graduates. He said he looks forward to new travels, family time and lots of fishing.
Smith has a demonstrated track record of excellence and high performance from her experiences at the Delaware Valley, Montgomery and Roswell Job Corps centers.
Smith said she is excited to lead the Alaska Job Corps Center.
“I love challenge,” she said. “I’m anxious to roll up my sleeves and get things done. I want Alaska Job Corps Center to be in first place on the report card.”
Smith has a bachelor’s degree in economics and master’s degrees in education and management.
“Malyn is the right leader for the unique Alaska Job Corp campus,” said Mary Cohorst, Chugach Corporate Job Corps Director. “I’m confident that she has energy and vision to share. Above all things, Malyn values respect and integrity, and that is what we want for all our students and our staff."
