Alaska Raceway Park hosts holiday action

PALMER — John Dixon will help to highlight racing action at Alaska Raceway Park over the holiday weekend.

Dixon, a New Zealand-born driver and Wasilla resident, who has in the past run his Fiat Topolino in the Pro-Nostalgia class, is racing the Spare Parts Car nitro altered under the banner of Trophy Hunter Fuel Altered this summer, debuting this weekend for practice passes. Sister car The Alaskan Grizzly Fuel Altered, running this weekend too, has the track record for Alaska Raceway Park with a 5.44-second quarter-mile mile at 279 mph. Trophy Hunter has the potential to equal or better that record, and John’s goal is to shatter the AA/FA (Fuel Altered) world record by making the first ever 4-second pass. His sponsors include JK&K Trucking and Interior Graphics & Printing.

Memorial Day weekend races at Alaska Raceway Park are sponsored by Anchorage Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram. The Green Light Grill, High Octane Lounge, and gift shop will all be open.

Saturday, the Butte drag strip will host King of the Street and Pro Gambler’s races. Gates open at 3 p.m. for night racing. Admission is $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and military, $10 for children ages 11-15 with an adult. Children under 10 are admitted free. Sunday marks the Top Eliminator, Pro-Nostalgia and Points races. Races are all day with gates opening at 10 a.m. Admission is $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and military, $10 for children ages 11-15 with an adult. Monday, Alaska Raceway Park hosts the Prockish Memorial Racing, in memory of Tony Prockish, the Top Eliminator, Pro-Nostalgia and Points races. Prices are the same as Sunday, but all active military will be admitted free.
