WASILLA — The Alaska Raceway Park is inviting local race enthusiasts and the general public to help raise funds for Club 1320, a crowdfunding group that focuses on capital improvements across the track.
Alaska Raceway is building up Club 1320 one donation at a time to work on projects such as constructing a concrete barrier to increase overall safety and purchasing a new scoreboard and timing system, according to a recent press release.
The wall and timing system project is scheduled for the 2022 race season providing much-needed safety and efficiency upgrades. The poured concrete wall will replace a quarter mile of double guardrail at the NHRA strip.
Total investment for the two projects is currently estimated at $185,000 on top of labor with Club 1320 providing most of the financing.
“When accidents do happen, the posts of the guard rail give way, and we run the risk of cars leaving the track,” Alaska Raceway Park owner Michelle Lackey Maynor stated in the press release. “Concrete barriers are much safer for our motorcycle racers and for our drivers racing at higher levels of speed.”
Club 1320 is accepting donations of all sizes, and patrons who contribute $100 or more will have their name or a name of their choosing permanently placed on a donation wall.
Those interested in supporting Club 1320s efforts to improve the Alaska Raceway Park can choose from multiple levels of support by going online or over the phone.
