The Alaska Railroad is restricting passenger service as of March 19, according to railroad officials, due to the ongoing threat of coronavirus.

“Like the rest of the world, we’ve been closing following the events related to COVID-19 coronavirus, with the safety and well-being of our passengers and employees remaining our highest priorities,” railroad officials said in a press release. “In light of recent developments, we’ve made the difficult decision to restrict passenger train service.”

The railroad is suspending operations of the Aurora Winter Train and Easter Train through April 30.

The railroad will provide passenger service to the roadless area between Talkeetna and Hurricane on the Hurricane Turn Train on April 2.
