Alaska records new single-day high in COVID-19 cases

MAT-SU — There were 194 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Alaska on Monday, the highest single-day total since the pandemic began.

Alaska has had 11 straight days with over 100 cases per day. The total number of residents and nonresidents who have tested positive for COVID-19 in Alaska is 9,587 with 8,613 of those being Alaska residents. There are currently 3,699 active cases of COVID-19 in Alaska and 58 people have died. There have been 301 total hospitalizations to date with 33 currently hospitalized. A total of 479,374 COVID-19 tests have been conducted.

There were eight new cases reported in the Valley on Monday and no one has been hospitalized with COVID-19 since early September, but 11 of 14 Intensive Care Unit beds are in use according to the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services. There have been a total of 688 cases of COVID-19 in the Mat-Su with 671 of those among residents. Wasilla has had 405 cases total with 135 remaining active. Palmer has had 202 total cases of COVID-19 with 57 remaining active. In total in the Mat-Su Valley, 200 people are listed as actively infected with COVID-19. A total of 29,171 tests have been conducted in the Mat-Su. The current seven-day positivity rate has risen to 3.13 percent. In the Mat-Su, 19 people have been hospitalized and two people have died.
