PALMER — The Alaska State Fair is currently looking for candidates who are interested in serving on the board of directors.
According to a recent press release, the ASF board consists of seven members who set policies for the private, nonprofit organization.
Current board members include President John Harkey, Vice President Jason Ortiz, secretary Cody Beus, treasurer Aryne Randall, Director Jon-Marc Petersen, Director Carol Kenley, and Director William Fischer, Director.
Current 2023 annual and lifetime (those who joined before March 18, 2024) ASF members will vote to fill one open board seat who will serve a three-year term.
Incumbent board secretary Cody Beus is up for re-election.
A new Director will be elected at the Fair’s annual meeting which is set for Wednesday, May 15 at 7 p.m.
The board of directors works to ensure that the Fair operates within the law; remains aware of the enjoyment, education, comfort, and safety of its customers, and acts with its best interest in all circumstances.
The press release indicated that the election committee is looking for "individuals who can envision the Fair as a gathering place for all Alaskans by encompassing the past, present, and future, and individuals who can make the full commitment of time and self-discipline it takes to set policy."
Candidates are required to be Alaskan residents who are at least 18 years old and members of the Alaska State Fair (either a lifetime member or an annual member in the current year).
Candidates must also not have been employed by the Fair in a year span, not be an immediate family member of a Fair employee, or someone who resides with a Fair employee.

Applications must be submitted by March 18, 2024 at 4:30 p.m.
Interested candidates can get an application packet at the Fair website or at the main office which is located at 2075 Glenn Highway in Palmer.
