Alaska State Fair is accepting applications for its 2011 scholarship program, which is open to all Alaska high school seniors. Three $1,000 cash scholarships will be awarded. Deadline to apply is 4 p.m., April 22 and recipients will be announced by May 2.
All Alaska high school seniors who are planning to attend a college or technical school in fall 2011 are eligible to apply. To apply, applicants must submit three hard copy scholarship packets to the Alaska State Fair, 2075 Glenn Hwy., Palmer, AK 99645 by the deadline.
The scholarship packet must include:
• A cover letter with the applicant’s name, address, phone, e-mail, name of high school, school phone number, guidance counselor’s name and the name of the college or technical school he or she plans to attend.
• A letter of recommendation.
• An essay of 1,000 words or less on one of the following topics: how should the fair grow to serve all of Alaska or what will the role of agriculture be in future fairs?
• A presentation that demonstrates how the applicant would use a 12-foot by 12-foot space at the fair to educate or entertain the public, raise awareness of issues or sell goods or services. Applicants should assume that the fair has more than 300,000 visitors, more than 3,000 entertainers and 450 small business and nonprofit vendors. The presentation can be in any medium, and creativity is encouraged.
