The Mat-Su Miners will call Hermon Brothers Field home for at least five more years.
The Alaska Stair Fair announced a renewal of its lease agreement with the Valley’s Alaska Baseball League organization through the 2030 season.
“We are very thankful," Mat-Su Miners marketing and communications director Denise Christopher said.
Hermon Brothers Field is part of the Alaska State Fairgrounds, and has been the home park of the Miners since 1976.
“We are thrilled to continue our partnership with the Mat-Su Miners,” Alaska State Fair CEO Jeff Curtis said in a press release issued earlier this week. “Baseball has long been a cornerstone of summer at the fairgrounds, and this renewed agreement ensures that players and fans alike will enjoy America’s pastime for years to come.”
Mat-Su has captured two National Baseball Congress titles and eight ABL championships in team history. The Miners have won six league titles and finished second a dozen times in the past 20 years alone.
Dozens of former Miners have also gone on to play at the Major League level. Thirteen former Miners were on a MLB roster last season. One of those pitcher Eli Morgan, a member of the 2015 Miners, made his debut with the Chicago Cubs during the Tokyo Series earlier this month.
In addition to success on the field, Miners staff and volunteers have continued to upgrade the Hermon Brothers facility. Work in recent years includes a new concession stand, merchandise stand and beer shack; a storage garage with multiple bays; and an indoor batting cage that is open to the community year-round. Additional work includes updated restrooms; a refurbished press box and grandstand; and new fencing and bleacher seating. A new drainage system and well was added in recent years. The infield was also redone. The facility is also ADA compliant.
Mat-Su’s first home game of the 2025 season is Tuesday, June 3 against the Anchorage Bucs.
