Special Korean War project part of festival
ANCHORAGE — Alaska veterans are encouraged to enter this year's Alaska Veterans' Creative Arts Festival, which begins in March.
The festival features fine art, crafts, applied art and performing art of veterans from every corner of Alaska.
It will take place at the Veterans Affairs Domiciliary on the corner of "C" Street and Benson in Anchorage from noon to 7:30 p.m. on March 16 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on March 17.
You don't have to be a veteran to attend the festival, but only veterans are eligible to submit art.
Winners will then compete in the national competition, which attracts artists from around the country.
Organizers said the purpose of the festival is to highlight the talents of Alaska's many veterans.
There are a number of different categories, including carving, ceramics, painting, mixed media, dancing, music and drama.
There is also a special Korean War commemorative project.
To be eligible, a veteran must have been on active duty in Korea between 1950-1953.
Entries are being submitted Feb. 26-March 9.
For information on submission guidelines and an entry form, interested veterans may call 1-888-353-7574, ext. 4839.
