Allen Wallace Sexton, 68, passed away peacefully at his home in Butte, AK on September 23, 2021, surrounded by his loving wife and family after a short cancer illness.
He was born to Elmer and Lottie Sexton on April 3, 1953, in Palmer, AK at the old Valley Hospital Building. Allen grew up in the Palmer Area and made his home in the “Butte,” residing a short distance from his childhood home, with his wife Mary Sexton.
Allen worked for MEA and Anchorage Municipality Light & Power for almost 40 years as a Warehouseman. He started his career with MEA while still in High School at the age of 16 where he worked, until he joined ML&P in 1984. He belonged to the IBEW Union for over 50 years.
He married his wife of 34 years, Mary Sexton on October 31, 1987 in Butte, AK, their wedding was a Halloween Theme, which was one of his favorite holidays of the year.
His roots in the community were always strong, he even served on the Butte Community Council for several years. He and his wife Mary ran the local Butte Trading Post and Butte Café for almost 10 years. During this time Allen mentored many of the young youth in the area, offering them a haven to discuss whatever their struggles or problems were, he offered them kindness and direction when needed. He always took pride in helping others who may need a friend or someone to make a difference in their lives when at a crossroads. Many of them still call Allen by the name of, “Uncle, Brother and most of all Friend” to this day.
His most loved past times were, spending time with his family, loving his many grandkids, traveling, RV-ing with his wife Mary, hunting, fishing, tinkering & fixing things and great stories around a campfire.
A celebration of life will be held on October 2, 2021 at the family’s home from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm at 3660 S. Juanita Way Palmer, AK (Off Lazenby Road), food and drink will be furnished. There will be a campfire for everyone to share their stories of Allen’s Life.
He is survived by his; wife Mary Sexton; Son’s, Wayne (Jackie) Sexton of Palmer, AK, Jeff (Amy) Keller of Tatum, TX, Donovan (Regina) Keller, Duane (Theresa) Keller, Jerry (Jeannette) Keller all of Jasonville, IN; Daughters, Michelle (Ed) Rush of Jasonville, IN, Joanna O’Neal of Farmersburg, IN and Angela Dean of Brazil, IN. He is also survived by his brothers, Michael (Cathy) Sexton of Anchorage, AK, Clifford (Kenny) Sexton and Mark Sexton of Palmer, AK; sisters, Deborah Magee and Cheri Mrak both of Palmer, AK; 22 Grandchildren, 56 Great Grandchildren, 9 Great Great Grandchildren and many cousins, Nieces and Nephews.
Allen is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Lottie Sexton; Son, Galen Paul Keller; Sister, Barbara Sexton and Nephew William Michael Mrak.
