November 20, 1942 - May 15, 2026 Ronald Roy Hull was born in 1942 in Tacoma, Washington. In 1951 he moved to Alaska with his parents Roy and Janet Hull and resided in Anchorage, which is where he met the love of his life, Jane. They met at a friend’s gathering, and 5 years later were married on June 3rd, 1963, one week after Jane graduated from High school. Ron graduated from West High school in Anchorage in 1961. Shortly afterward, he joined the Alaska Army National Guard and completed basic training in Fort Ord California, where he earned the distinction of serving as platoon leader. He served four years with the National Guard and was active duty during the 1964 earthquake. During that time, he oversaw Turnagain by the Sea area, ensuring no residents were trapped in homes that had slid downhill and into Turnagain Arm. He began his construction career working for Walter Hickle in 1960, and by 1968 he and his brother Ed had started their own company, H&H Construction. In 1971, Ron and Jane moved from Anchorage to the Mat-Su Valley and built their family home on the Hull Family Homestead, just north of Wasilla, originally homesteaded by Roy and Janet in the 1950’s. Over his lifetime, Ron built hundreds of homes and proudly helped each of his children build homes of their own, something they remain deeply grateful for. In May of 1969 he obtained his private pilot’s license and later in June of 1989 received his commercial pilot’s single engine instrument rating. Ron loved the outdoors and was an avid Pilot, Hunter, and fisherman. He enjoyed flying his super cub, golfing, shooting his bow, hiking, running, and snowmachining. One of his favorite things to do was to spend time at his Shulin Lake cabin, especially with Jane and his family. Ron and Jane also treasured spending several weeks each winter together on Hawaii’s Big Island. He devoted countless hours over many years, running his sons to hockey practice and games. In the 1980’s he coached youth hockey and also served as a referee. He assisted with clearing trees, building, and maintaining the original outdoor Brett Ice Arena off Knik-Goose Bay Road. In 2010, the day after returning from their annual trip to Hawaii, he suffered a devastating stroke that left him paralyzed on his right side and unable to speak more than a few words. Through therapy, determination, and perseverance, he eventually gained the ability to walk with a brace. Even during the most difficult moments of his life, Ron never lost his wonderful sense of humor. He never gave up on himself. His love, kindness, strength, and determination made him a shining example and role model to everyone who knew him. Ron was proceeded in death by his father, Roy Dale Hull; his mother, Janet Marie Hull; and his older brother, Edward Dale Hull. He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 63 years, Jane Marie Hull; his children: Shawn Hull and wife Kristin, Tammy Hull and husband Justin, Daniel Hull and wife Heather, and Keath Hull; 11 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Tina and Suzanne. Ron was a man of great integrity who worked hard throughout his entire life. His family is proud and grateful for his unwavering dedication, his willingness to provide for those he loved, and the knowledge and skills he passed down to future generations. Above all else, Ron loved his wife Jane with all his heart. He spent his life caring for and providing for her and their family. Ron was the rock of his family, and Jane was always- and forever will be-the center of his universe. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and him.
