Palmer Pioneers
Landon Guggenmos is playing in his second season in the Palmer Pioneers American Legion baseball program.
Guggenmos earned his first start at shortstop June 26 and used a walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth to lead the Pioneers to a 6-5 win over North Pole. Two days later, Guggenmos made the start on the mound and pitched a five-inning shutout during a 19-0 win over Bartlett. Guggenmos fanned 10 of the 20 batters he faced. Guggenmos will be a junior at Palmer High School in the fall.
Nolan Murphy
Wasilla Road Warriors
Nolan Murphy is in his second season as a starter for the Wasilla Road Warriors American Legion baseball program.
Last week, Murphy led the Road Warriors offense going 10 for 19 at the plate with 13 RBI. He also pitched 5 1/3 innings on the mound, and did not allow an earned run. He fanned a dozen, while allowing only two walks and one hit. He also combined with teammate Clayton Boyett to pitch a five-inning no-hitter in a win against Fairbanks. Murphy pitched four of the innings. Murphy will enter his senior year in the fall.
