Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Alaska resident Amanda Kay Fritz, 24, died at her home on Nov. 13, 2004. Visitation was scheduled for 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 20, and a funeral service was set for that day at 11 a.m., at Kings Chapel in Wasilla, with Frank Pleticha, Matthew Fritz, Richie Wright, Dean Cook, Dave Stranger and Aaron Williamson as pallbearers and Pastor Paul Riley officiating. Burial was set to immediately follow at the Wasilla Aurora Cemetery.
Ms. Fritz was born March 2, 1980 on Luke Air Force Base in Arizona. Her family moved to Alaska after her birth. She loved people and cats. As hobbies, she enjoyed knitting, painting, arts and crafts.
Her family wrote, "No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it." I Cor. 10:13. Amanda was a beloved wife, daughter, sister and friend. She will be greatly missed. She was also an expert cookie negotiator and master barterer."
She is survived by her husband, Jason Fritz of Anchorage; mother, Suzie Pleticha of Chicago; father, Chuck McElwee of Wasilla; two sisters, Carey Ecker of Anchorage and Jessica Cook of San Antonio, Texas; grandfather, John Ward of Syracuse, N.Y.; grandfather, Bubby McElwee of Smithport, Pa.; niece, Abigayle Cook of San Antonio, Texas and nephews, Uriah Cook of San Antonio, Texas and Dylan, Ryan and Kyle Ecker of Anchorage. She is also survived by numerous other aunts, uncles and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be sent in care of Chuck McElwee, 2355 N. Willow Dr., Wasilla, AK 99654.
Arrangements were made by Valley Funeral Home & Crematory in Wasilla.
