WASILLA — A Mat-Su Borough ambulance was in a minor accident Monday evening.
“The ambulance hit the front quarter panel of the vehicle and then we had some damage to the bumper and the guard on the front of our ambulance,” said Clint Vardeman, Deputy Director for EMS of the Mat-Su Borough’s Department of Emergency Services.
Vardeman said that the ambulance was headed to a call at 9:36 p.m. Monday. A command vehicle — a department SUV — was in front. It cleared the intersection of Parks and Lucille and took off.
All the traffic was stopped and then the ambulance went.
“When they took off another car took off at the same time,” Vardeman said.
He said no one was hurt in the crash. The other vehicle involved was damaged but Vardeman didn’t know how badly.
“I know the airbag deployed so it was not drivable but I don’t know how much damage it had,” Vardeman said.
As for the ambulance — he said medics had to get a new rig.
“We typically take them out of service whenever we have an accident,” Vardeman said.
