WASILLA - The Alaska Road Warrior American Legion baseball squad opened the 2005 season with a lop-sided victory, Tuesday.
The Road Warriors blasted East, a traditional legion power, 10-0 at McManus Field.
"We kind of blindsided them a little bit," Road Warrior head coach Pete Powell said.
Powell said East had played a 12-inning game the night before and the Road Warriors, playing in their first game of the season, were fresh.
David Doerr, hitting in the eighth position, led the Road Warriors at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI. David Breck also drove in a pair of runs.
Gunner Bahn and Josh Morlan each scored twice.
The squad used a trio of pitchers. Joe Smith started and pitched two innings. Tyler Tillery threw three innings, and Ryan Pauling pitched one inning.
The Road Warriors return to the diamond Saturday, and face the Dimond legion post at 1 p.m., at McManus Field.
