WASILLA — American Legion Post 35 is hosting the 20th Annual Spaghetti Feed and Auction March 26 to benefit Special Olympics Alaska’s efforts in the Mat-Su Valley.
“The amount of dedication they have put into this event over the years is just completely heartwarming. They love our athletes and are always so eager to help us do fundraisers,” Special Olympics Mat-Su public relations manager Danielle Sherrer said.
The dinner includes spaghetti, bread, salad, and beverages. Sherrer said there will be a silent and dessert auction, and the unique $1 auction is considered the highlight of the evening.
Sherrer said this is the largest fundraiser of the year for the Mat-Su Special Olympics program. She said American Legion’s continued dedication to their cause makes greatly aids their work providing training, equipment, social events, and competitions for an average of 200 plus athletes from across the Valley.
“The Special Olympics Alaska Mat-Su community has to raise money to keep our community programs going. If we do not raise funds to keep our programs, they will eventually cease within Mat-Su,” Sherrer said. “We really appreciate them and all of their efforts. They don’t ask for anything from us. They just do it. They love all of our athletes.”
The spaghetti dinner runs from 5 to 7 p.m. with auctions begging at 7 p.m. General admission is $10 and tickets must be purchased in advance due to limited capacity.
