On behalf of my husband and myself I want to the thank the polling volunteers at the Mat-Su Convention and Visitors Center for all that they did on Election Day — up to and including an attempt to monitor and gently deter an unattended 2-year-old from licking and smearing the windows while his uniformed parent was voting.
This resulted in said parent getting in one volunteer’s face (effectively blocking the ballot box) to humiliate and bully him in front of the other patrons, who were trying to: 1. focus on their ballots or 2. avoid tripping over the tot as he ran around the building.
Kudos to the volunteer for his tact and maturity, and shame on the parent who felt that his military uniform and rank entitled him to less than civil behavior. You set a poor example for the child, who may go through life now assuming that everyone is as enamored with him as his own parents are and that the world must accommodate his undesirable behavior where ever he goes.
