Anchorage athlete wins Why Not Tri triathlon

An Anchorage athlete won the Why Not Tri triathlon Saturday in Wasilla.

Brett Zimmerman notched the best time, finishing the event in 52 minutes, 43 seconds. The 12th annual race featured a 400-yard swim in the Wasilla Pool, 9.5 miles on the bike and a 5-K run. The triathlon starts and ends at Wasilla High School. A total of 186 men and women participated in the adult race. There were also a team relay and kids race.

Sarah Plant won the women’s class, and was the ninth overall finisher with a time of 58:14. The top 15 competitors broke the hour mark. Asher Lauderdale, Riley Fugure, Travis Porter and Brendan Kennedy rounded out the overall top five.
