WASILLA -- In a battle of the 2003-04 wrestling team champions Tuesday night, the small-school victor was the spoiler.
With the advantage of being almost completely done with its 1-2-3A season, the Anchorage Christian Lions scored a 37-31 dual meet over the 4A Wasilla Warriors at Wasilla High School.
Wasilla, winners of the 2004 Palmer Invitational last weekend, wrestled in just its first dual meet of the season Tuesday.
Gerardo Arias (125 pounds), Zach Shelley (135) and William Scott (145), each top-ranked wrestlers in the small-schools class, posted victories to lead the Lions.
Trevor Pempek led the Warriors with a 2-1 double-overtime win over Cody Dunbar at 152.
Alan Bartelli scored a 14-1 major decision to win at 103 for Wasilla. Sam Miller (112), Chuck Carpenter (160) and Jake Wade (189) each registered pins for Wasilla.
Heavyweight Donnie Salmon earned a forfeit victory.
