A 35-year-old Anchorage woman was killed Sunday morning in a single-vehicle rollover crash on the Glenn Highway, according to Alaska State Troopers.
In an online post Sunday evening, troopers said they were called to Mile 31.5 of the Glenn around 11:26 a.m., where a northbound 2007 Ford Escape had gone into the ditch, lost control and rolled three times. The driver, Faith Igkurak, was ejected from the vehicle, according to troopers. She was taken to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead. An adult female passenger in the vehicle suffered minor injuries, according to troopers, and also was taken to Mat-Su Regional.
While a recent stretch of overnight temperatures in the 20s and 30s has resulted in reports of the Knik and Matanuska river bridges icing up, trooper spokeswoman Megan Peters said witnesses to the crash indicated that the roadway wasn’t icy at the time.
Still, Peters said, the onset of freezing temperatures means that road conditions will vary considerably this time of year.
“People should be practicing their best driving behaviors and plan ahead for how long a trip is going to take,” Peters said. “Make sure you aren’t going too fast for conditions and give yourself plenty of distance and time to slow down or stop.”
