WASILLA — The 2022 Bikers Fighting Hunger Food Drive is officially underway, and the public is invited to donate what they can to support local families in need across the Mat-Su Valley.
“With the New Year comes a new hope, and beginning for all, but some families are in a tough spot, with COVID lockdowns to winter storms, and could use all of our help to make ends meet thru the rest of winter,” food drive organizer Glenn Butts said.
The food drive started at the beginning of January and runs through February.
Butts and other volunteers set up donation bins for nonperishable food items and cash collection jars at various Valley establishments.
“During the holiday months, we tend to give or donate to others in abundance, but after that, the local food banks fall way short with donations in the months between New Year and Easter, and our goal is to fill the gap in these months… by continuing to donate to the food banks in the Valley for the families still in need of help,” Butts said.
Bikers Fighting Hunger is a project blanketed under the Christian Motorcycle Association’s Mat-Su chapter, the Midnight Son Riders.
The fundraiser culminates with a community spaghetti dinner to honor those who helped along the way. Guest are encouraged to bring a side dish or dessert. Anyone willing to help out during the event is also welcome to reach out for more information.
The spaghetti dinner takes place Sunday, Feb. 27 at the Mat-Su Alano Club from 2 to 5 p.m.
Denali Harley Davidson is also hosting their annual community taco dinner in conjunction with the food drive Saturday, Feb. 12 at the dealership.
Admission for both events is $12 at the door or 12 canned goods. Kids 10 and under are free with a limit of one child per adult.
