WASILLA — About 100 adults and juniors are expected to his Wasilla Lake this weekend for the annual Moose Nugget Regatta.
Alaska’s largest annual rowing event features 1,000-meter sprint races in a variety of team and individual events that are scheduled for Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Spectators can watch from Wasilla’s Newcomb Park as teams compete for trophies, and individuals battle for medals. The 2016 regatta will feature more than 40 events, with various combinations of boat type, rower age, experience and gender. Boats in the races include eights, fours and pairs, and quad, double and single sculls.
There are sweep rowing boats, with one oar per person, and sculls with two oars per person.
Rowers will compete in masters, novice adults and juniors classes, with men’s, women’s and mixed-gender divisions.
