PALMER — Youth leaders across the Valley are gearing up to present the annual Youth Summit at the Glenn Massay Theater Tuesday from 4 to 9 p.m.
The MyHouse Youth Action Board is organizing this event, coordinating with several local nonprofits like No More Mat-Su and the Mat-Su Opioid Task Force to raise awareness about addiction and prevention.
It all centers on youth experiences and creating solutions to combat the high volumes of drug and alcohol abuse.
There will be several panel discussions with youth leaders and other experts in the field. They will cover three main drivers for addiction: trauma, which includes domestic violence and secual assault; mental health; and poverty.
This event is designed to be an event led by youth for the youth, according to Michael Carson, V.P. and Recovery Specialist and Chair of the Mat-Su Opioid Task Force.
“We know over 52 percent of youth do not feel connected to their community. These volunteer opportunities will provide a connection to caring, mentoring adults and with other youth. What an important opportunity to establish valuable relationships for possible future careers or just enjoying activities with other youth while helping others in need,” Carson stated via email.
For any additional information about the Youth Summit, call MyHouse at 907-373-4357 and ask for a MyHouse Youth Advisory Board Member.
