Another bright idea

J's World, by Jeremiah Bartz

I took in a little wrestling the other day -- a set of dual meets at Colony High School.

I wrestled back in the day, enjoyed it, enjoy covering it. And I was thinking to myself.

"Self," I said. That's what I call myself.

"Self, wrestling really has something right here -- weight classes."

Weight classes -- what a genius of an idea. Wrestle someone of your own weight, or girth, in some cases. No wrestling foes who are twice as tiny and twice as fast or twice as massive and twice as strong. Just think if all individual sports were separated into weight classes.

You know what? I think I am on to something here.

Just think of it -- golf with weight classes, bowling with weight classes, ping pong, with weight classes!

I think I do have something here. This may be the greatest idea I have had in days -- maybe weeks. This ranks right up there with my other brain storms like the World League of PlayStation Hockey, caffinated Coors and the morning after hangover pill.

Last winter I took up squash -- not the vegetable, but the sport. Let's just say that I am big boned, so running around with people who are not blessed with my stature is sometimes a lot of work. But get my good buddy Casey Ressler on the court with me and things are a little more even. Though it may not be to the same degree, Ressler is also blessed with a similar stature. Against a 150-pound fitness freak, Ressler or I may may have some problems and suffer a minor heart attack, but against people of similar size, the battle is on. So, I know now what squash is lacking is the heavy- weight division.

What if track and field events were separated into weight division. Imagine the heavyweight 100-yard dash. Now that's entertainment!

Jeremiah Bartz believes he could be the state heavyweight champion in squash, darts, golf, PlayStation hockey and long snapping.
