Frontiersman file photoA Goose Creek Correctional Center Inmate died at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center Saturday due to complications related to coronavirus, according to the Alaska Department of Corrections.
The deceased was 76 and had been at Mat-Su Regional since Nov. 30. The inmate had been in custody since 2013, convicted of first-degree sexual abuse of a minor and second-degree sexual abuse of a minor.
This is the fifth Alaska Department of Corrections inmate to die due to COVID-19 related complications and the second Goose Creek inmate in less than a week. Another Goose Creek inmate died at Mat-Su Regional on Dec. 22. That inmate, 60, had been incarcerated since 2015, serving time for first-degree sexual assault, nine counts of second-degree sexual abuse of a minor, third-degree sexual abuse of a minor and third-degree assault.
The identity of the deceased will be not be released in order to protect the private health information of the offender, according to DOC officials.
