For me, there are at least 6 reasons why I am going to vote “no” on making permanent the increase to 3 percent in the Wasilla City sales tax.
Reason No. 6: I resent efforts to not lower the sales tax back to 2 percent after the library is funded, as was my expectation when I voted for the temporary increase.
Reason No. 5: A more important reason why I am opposed to making the increase permanent is that I don’t like the list of proposed projects; some are good, some are bad, and some that we need are missing. Worst of all, there was a lack of public process in creating this list. It’s not ready to be voted on.
There’s other problems with spending so much on capital projects, but that’s for my next letter.
