The Colony Knight football squad handed out another shutout Friday. West Valley was the latest Knight opponent to finish scoreless as Colony left Fairbanks after a 46-0 win at West Valley High School.
The Knight defense picked off a pair of passes, including Josh Morlan's 86-yard interception return for a touchdown, recovered a fumble and held the Wolfpack to just 62 yards on the ground.
Rhett Magner tossed a pair of touchdown passes and ran for another in the win. The senior quarterback scored on a 2-yard run late in the first quarter and hit Kyle Coffman on a 9-yard touchdown pass late in the first half.
In the third quarter, Magner connected with Justin Schwartzbauer on a 75-yard touchdown bomb. Magner and Schwartzbauer have now connected on a touchdown in each of the first five games of the season.
Shawn Olivera and Billy Collins also posted touchdown runs for the Knights.
Tim Egger and Brieta Clemmer kicked field goals for Colony.
Colony improved to 5-0 with the win and will host Valley-rival Palmer at
CHS on Friday.
Lathrop 28, Palmer 14
The Palmer Moose fell to 1-4 overall and 1-2 in Railbelt Conference play after a 28-14 loss to Lathrop in Fairbanks on Friday.
Malemute quarterback Derek Stevenson factored in on a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns to lead Lathrop to its first win of the season. Stevenson connected with freshman wide receiver Paul Meredith on the go-ahead touchdown with just more than 11 minutes left in regulation and scored on a 1-yard run with 2:53 left in the game.
Devon Conroy scored both Palmer touchdowns. The junior posted a 3-yard scoring run in the first quarter, to give PHS the 7-0 lead, and posted a 30-yard touchdown in the third quarter to tie
the score a 14-14.
North Pole 57, Wasilla 14
North Pole sandwiched a pair of Wasilla touchdowns with scoring spurts of 23 and 34 points en route to a 57-14 win at North Pole High School Saturday.
The Patriots jumped to a 23-0 lead, but Wasilla took advantage of three North Pole fumbles and scored a pair of touchdowns to bring the Warriors within nine points. Zach Bennett tossed a 12-yard touchdown pass to Arlin Welch, and Mason Richards scored a 3-yard touchdown to pull the Warriors within two scores.
But with the 23-14 lead, the Patriots scored twice before halftime, including a 24-yard Chris Powell touchdown pass with 18 seconds left in the second quarter. Monzulla ran for 190 yards and three scores, and Powell threw for 262 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions to lead the Patriots.
