I couldn’t help but notice that just a day or two after local voters squashed potential for installation of turf fields in the Valley, the Anchorage Daily News reported that another turf field facility will be ready for use in Anchorage sometime during the summer of 2011.
That new facility will be in Kincaid Park, and will add to the seven turf field facilities that already exist in the Anchorage area.
Proposition 4 included a $9.025 million bond package that, if approved, would have led to the installation of turf at three local high schools (Colony, Palmer and Wasilla) and synthetic tracks at five area schools (Colony, Palmer, Wasilla, Houston and Susitna Valley). And as reported in the Frontiersman, Prop. 4 failed. Nearly 57 percent of borough those who turned out for the general election voted against the proposition.
So folks, the score is now: Anchorage Municipality 8, Mat-Su Borough 0.
