If only the concerned group of Catholics convening in Anchorage this weekend could see the irony of the situation as they work on the dilemma of the shortage of priests.
The irony lies in the fact that the answer is in front of them every day, everywhere. It’s in the faces of the women of the world who feel called by God to minister to the church as priests.
Gasp, gasp! Why, that can’t happen!! Tradition says. Well, Jesus regularly taught His followers to defy tradition. And never did He indicate that a woman could not minister in a priestly function.
I pray that the participants in the Serra International convention (Sept. 2-5) will be inspired to use the power of their voices to help open the door for these women to answer their vocation.
