MAT-SU - Students ages 13 to 18 are invited to attend the 15th annual Alaska Points of Light Youth Leadership Institute from 9 to 5 p.m., March 12-16 at the Anchorage Salvation Army Corps Community Center, 1701 C St.
Alaska Points of Light Youth Leadership Institute is an innovative service and leadership training for youth ages 13 to 18 preparing for higher education, careers, employment, community engagement and life. PYLI is a 50-hour community leadership training for interested youth from across Alaska, including five days of skill development and instruction in self and community assessment, diversity, goal-setting, team-building, project-planning and decision-making, plus hands-on field exercises, a community service project and a graduation ceremony.
Deadline to apply is Feb. 29. Cost is $100 and includes training, materials, a T-shirt and graduation certificate. Need-based scholarship assistance is available. Applications are available from Prudential Jack White Vista Real Estate offices, school counseling-career guidance offices or by email at alaskayouthasresources@alaska.net.
Students learn leadership skills to improve themselves, their schools and make the community a better place to live. All young people with a positive attitude, commitment to strengthening the community and a desire to build their own leadership skills are invited to apply.
