Appreciates suspended gas tax

To the editor:

Many thanks to Governor Palin for supporting an extension of the state gas tax she suspended last year. With a career where I am often on the road, and as a parent constantly shuttling kids to and from events, I appreciate that Governor Palin understands that raising taxes only harms families and businesses.

I was happy to hear that Governor Palin pledged her support to a bill sponsored by Sen. Bettye Davis extending the motor fuel tax suspension. The governor and lawmakers worked in tandem last year setting the policy in place as part of the governor’s comprehensive energy plan. I hope legislators will keep this important tax suspension in place. Thank you, Governor, for protecting our pocket books.

Alaskans are still paying double at the fuel pump what our neighbors in the States are paying for gas. I appreciate Governor Palin’s support for combating the high cost of energy by supporting an extension to the gas tax suspension she offered last year as part of her energy plan. She understands that Alaskans should keep more of their hard earned money. Thank you, Governor.

Lawmakers have before them a bill sponsored by Sen. Davis to extend the motor fuel tax, which Governor Palin advocated for last year. I hope legislators understand the importance of keeping taxes low, especially with what could turn into some of Alaska ’s toughest economic times. I thank Governor Palin for continually supporting sound measures that keeps more money in our pockets.
