To the editor:
The community has actively participated in every Arbor Day ceremony that I have been part of since 1992 at Matanuska River Park. This year the Mat-Su Borough’s official celebration ceremony included a tree planting with the excitement and spirit exhibited by Our Lady of the Valley Catholic School students. As part of Arbor Day festivities, we held a tree sale the next day outside the Frontiersman office building.
I wish to recognize and commend the following participants who were directly involved: “Super organizers” Karen Smith and LuAnn Andre, OLV students/staff, Terry Yochum, John McNeal, Stephen Nickles, Alaska Division of Forestry (for their publications), Warren Templin with MSB Parks and Recreation, Jacob Phillips and the Frontiersman for supportive publicity and especially providing the tree sale location.
Thanks to all for continuing the Valley Arbor Day tradition that will provide a genuine, living legacy!
