PALMER — Are you and your family prepared for the unexpected, whether it is loss of employment, an accident, extended power outage, health problems or an earthquake? The public is invited to a free Family Emergency Preparedness Fair from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Nov. 16 at the Colony Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Colony Way across from Colony High School in Palmer.

“This is not your normal fair, it’s a training, workshop fair,” said Jim and Debby Brown, organizers of the event.

Throughout the day there will be classes, booths and demonstrations with samples.

Class titles include: Preserving the Bounty, First Aid, Coping with Disasters, Home and Family Security and All about Water. Booths include: How to make Mozzarella, Yogurt and Cottage Cheese, Dehydrating Eggs and Fruit, Root Cellars, Home Made Ice Cream, Fire Extinguishers and CO Safety, Grinding Your Own Wheat, Emergency Lighting, Food Storage, Dutch Oven Cooking, All About Grains; First Aid Kits, Gardening, Canning, How to Live Off the Grid, Beans, Water Storage and Filtration, How to Make Whole Wheat Bread, Communication During a Disaster; 72-Hour Kit, Fun Foods in an Emergency and more.

The blood donation mobile also will be there all day, walk-ins welcome.

“The purpose of the event is to help inspire and motivate the family to be prepared,” Jim Brown said. “If the family is prepared, they will be able to help their neighbors and the community.”
