Warrior boys finish strong
The Wasilla Warrior boys' basketball team put forth a strong defensive performance to defeat the visiting Colony Knights 63-22 Friday at Wasilla High School.
The Wasilla defense was exceptionally strong in the second half, allowing Colony to score only nine points.
"We played about as well in the second half as we are capable of playing," said Wasilla coach Chuck Martin. "Colony is a good, well-coached team, it just shows how well we are playing right now."
Adam Fitt-Chapell led all scorers with 19 points, with Ray Schafer adding 17.
Wasilla heads into the Region III tournament Thursday as the top seed.
"I'm really looking forward to regions," said Schafer. "We are coming together as a team right now -- it's been fun playing with these guys."
Wasilla followed up the Friday effort with a 48-40 win over Dimond Saturday. Travis Webb led all scorers with 16 points with Fitt-Chappell adding 12 and Schafer 11.
Wasilla girls take two
The Wasilla Warrior girls' squad fed post-player Brittney Kroon early and often as Kroon led the Warriors with 30 points to defeat the Colony Knights 61-40 Friday at Wasilla High School.
Kroon scored 28 of her 30 points from the field. Chandice Cronk aided the effort with 17 points for the Warriors.
Wasilla followed Friday's performance with a 63-34 win over Dimond Saturday. Cronk led all scorers with 21 points in the game. Fifteen of the 21 points were scored from five three pointers. Marsha Schirack and Tonja James each scored nine points.
Wasilla heads into the Region III tournament Thursday as the top seed.
Houston boys surpass Grace
Jesse Webb led the Hawks with 18 points and 11 rebounds in a 52-41 win over Grace Christian Friday at Houston High School.
Peter Clemens scored 12 points for the Hawks and Travis Webb added 11.
Houston girls drop
two close games
Despite a 14-point effort from Linnea Pudwill, the Hawks fell to Grace Christian 56-51 Friday at Houston High School.
Joelle Nicoll and Sandi Vial each scored nine points for Houston.
The Hawks fell to Anchorage Christian 38-34 Saturday with Nicoll and Kerrie Aldeman each scoring nine points in the game.
