Area wrestlers compete

Wrestlers from around the Valley competed in the Cook Inlet Wrestling Tournament Saturday at East Anchorage High School.

Wrestlers from the Valley's Alaska USA Wrestling clubs -- Mid-Valley Wrestling and Snowkids -- competed in the event with Mid-Valley Wrestling taking third place in team points.

Michael Cox of Mid-Valley won the pre-bantam 50-pound weight divison. Bria Shell of Mid-Valley took third in the bantam 45-pound divison. Mid-Valley wrestlers Abraham Fox and Tyler Adams took first and second in the bantam 50-pound division. Mathew Bowden of Mid-Valley won the bantam 55-pound division and Luke Faulkner of Snowkids placed second.

Christopher Cox took first place for Mid-Valley in the midget 75-pound division. Conner Briske of Snowkids placed second in the midget 80-pound division with Mid-Valley's Andy Cox taking second in the midget 87-pound division. Kellee Torrey placed second for Mid-Valley in the midget 95-pound division and Raymond Muetz won the midget 120-pound-and-over division for the Snowkids. Jerome Gilman took second for Mid-Valley in the novice 80-pound division.

In the schoolboy/girl class, Mid-Valley wrestlers Kyle Volin took second in the 75-pound division, Alan Bartelli took second in the 80-pound division, Josh Armstrong won the 85-pound division, Eric Shell took third in the 95-pound division, Marshell Carlyle took third in the 100-pound division and Levi Fox placed third in the 105-pound division. Justin Ratcliff of Snowkids took second in the 115-pound division, with Jeffrey Pritchett taking second in the 150-pound division for Mid-Valley. Mid-Valley wrestlers Chuck Carpenter and Adam Miller grabbed first and third place in the 160-pound division. Clifton Branzhaf won the 160-pound-and-over division for Mid-Valley.

Michael Dyas of Mid-Valley won the cadet 112-pound division and Shawn Olivera took second in the 135-pound division for Mid-Valley.

Wrestlers will compete Saturday and Sunday in the Alaska USA Wrestling Championships at Bartlett High School in Anchorage.
