Wasilla resident Arlene M. Johnson, 78, died after a long illness March 3, 2002, at Valley Hospital in Palmer.
A memorial service was held March 12, 2002, at 4 p.m. at the Palmer Moose Lodge No. 793 in Palmer. Her ashes will be scattered on Mount Susitna.
Mrs. Johnson was born August 20, 1923, in Presque Isle, Maine. She completed 10th grade and left to marry Galen Johnson.
She and her husband resided in Waterville, Maine, for five years, during which time she volunteered as a nurse's aide at Togus Veterans' Hospital in Togas, Maine.
She moved to Alaska in 1955, residing in Anchorage until 1965, Palmer until 1974, Big Lake until 2000 and Wasilla until her death.
Mrs. Johnson was an Avon lady in the Mat-Su Valley for 15 years. She was member American Legion Auxiliary for 35 years, a Lioness for many years, a member of Eastern Star, and a life member of the Moose Lodge, along with being a past senior reagent.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by her husband Galen of Wasilla; sons Jim of Wasilla, Galen Jr. of Eagle River, Hjalmar of Washington, Stephen of Florida; and two daughters, Joann of Maryland and Terry-Lee of North Carolina.
