Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Arlene Toby Zagars, 41, of Wasilla, died Feb. 23, 2001, at the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage.
She was a homemaker and lifelong Alaskan, born on Oct. 8, 1959, in Kotzebue, to Clara K. Sampson and Eddie Gallahorn.
Services were held Feb. 27 in Kotzebue and Feb. 28 in Noorvik, and she will be buried next to her mother in Noorvik.
Ms. Zagars graduated from Noorvik High School in 1978 and worked in the airline industry in Kotzebue before moving to Wasilla. She was a member of Noorvik Friends Church and regularly attended St. David's Episcopal Church in Wasilla. Her interests included boating, fishing, camping, berry picking, gardening, clam digging, and traveling.
Her family said: "Arlene's radiant personality and smiling eyes touched the lives of many. She was the type of person that made others feel good just being around her. Her caring and unselfish ways created friendships that will last forever. She will be greatly missed."
Survivors include: Mike Zagars Sr. of Wasilla; Mike Jr. and Anthony of Wasilla; Eddie Gallahorn of Point Hope; Dick and Shelia Zagars of Tenakee Springs; Calvin, Walter, and Delbert Sampson, Ess and Bibianna Scott, Helena Gorta, Della Gallahorn of Kotzebue; Myrtis and Jake Rogers of Wasilla; Chris Zagars, Carrie Zagars Rehfeld, Celia Zagars of Seattle; Robert, Viola Gallahorn, Abe and Joleen Kowanna, Nellie Sears Tillie Nashookpuk of Point Hope; Glen and Josephine Thomas, Percy Ballot of Buckland; Ed and Eva Ruth Maffei of Clancy, Mont.; Manual and Yolanda (Mikey) Duran of Goodlooking, Colo.; and many other cousins, nieces and nephews. Arrangements were made by Evergreen Memorial Chapel downtown.
