Self-discovery isn’t extra credit or reserved for certain types of people. Being true to yourself, no matter what you do for a living is crucial to living an authentic life, whether it’s creating art with the medium that speaks you the loudest over what other people tell you you’re good at or picking a career that makes you happier than the day job that paid better.
Discovering your true self establishes a sense of self-worth, confidence, and belief. Knowing oneself is not an easy path to walk and starting an inward journey requires courage.
The following quotes stress the importance of persevering through the chaos of life to find clarity on the inside. The rest follows suit and gets clearer with each somber and honest reflection or realization.
“Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.”
― Aristotle
“Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.”
― Carl Jung
“Not until we are lost do we begin to understand ourselves.”
― Henry David Thoreau
Sometimes you have to kind of die inside in order to rise from your own ashes and believe in yourself and love yourself to become a new person. Gerard Way
“One must still have chaos in oneself to be able to give birth to a dancing star.”
― Friedrich Nietzsche
“No matter if you think you can or you think you can’t… You’re right. ”
― Henry Ford
“I feel the older I get, the more I’m learning to handle life. Being on this quest for a long time, it’s all about finding yourself. “
― Ringo Starr
“Bottom line is, even if you see ‘em coming, you’re not ready for the big moments. No one asks for their life to change, not really. But it does. So what are we, helpless? Puppets? No. The big moments are gonna come. You can’t help that. It’s what you do afterwards that counts. That’s when you find out who you are.”
― Joss Whedon
“When I discover who I am, I’ll be free.”
― Ralph Ellison
