To the editor:
Whoa. With a single stroke of the pen, Mat-Su Borough Assemblyman Ron Arvin totally dismisses the hundreds of residents who volunteer thousands of hours of their time on borough boards and commissions!
In his words, those of us who serve on these boards and commissions have “infested” our own government. So, if you are donating time to your road service area or fire service area, in Mr. Arvin’s eyes you are akin to vermin.
Maybe he’d like assembly meetings to last several days so that body can debate everything currently being addressed by residents (approved by the assembly) who donate their own time.
As a planning commissioner, I truly value these resident boards. They have the best sense of what’s happening “on the ground,” and they are typically composed of a range of interests so one view does not predominate. These people care about their community!
Arvin owes all of these folks a huge apology. I expect to see it in the next issue of this paper.
